Using Google Workspace at Tufts

Google workspace is available at Tufts University, although it is not a supported solution. Most people will work within O365, Box.com, and Outlook. However, there are are some departments (notably Computer Science & Electrical Engineering) that are currently using Google workspace as their primary productivity suite as part of a pilot program. Tufts will not be expanding the pilot program.

Google workspace is available to everyone at Tufts, but it does not include email!

Google workspace accounts are only provisioned for individuals. One cannot use Google services from a shared account.

The applications available in a Google workspace are shown in this tile:

Using Google Calendar:

Google calendar is included in Tufts Google Workspace. You can create events and send invitations to others. Invitations are sent through email, so appointments will be added to Outlook/Exchange calendars, not Google calendars. You will also not be able to see any person’s “free/busy” blocks.

Using Google Drive:

You can store and share files from Google Drive. However, Tufts' preferred file storage and sharing solution is Box. Google Drive has a storage limit of 15Gb, which cannot be increased.

Leaving Tufts?

When you leave the University, all of your content will be deleted 20 days after your account is deactivated. This is controlled by Google, and no content can be retrieved by Tufts.
